Organic Agriculture Course in Lattakia on November 21-22, 2021

Debbane & Co. organized a training course on organic agriculture at the Directorate of Agriculture in Lattakia on November 21 and 22, 2021, as part of the cooperation program between Debbane & Co. and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform/Extension and Organic Production directorates. Dr. Wael Saleh Al-Matni delivered various and up-to-date information on the methods and materials used in the management of the organic farm, especially olives, citrus and protected vegetables. In addition, many new technologies and materials available in the local market that serve this field were introduced, especially the organic management of major pests, which open new horizons for the expansion of organic agriculture and provide solutions to many problems facing its practical application and improving farmer income through production marketing in the export market.

The training included heads of extension and organic agriculture departments, representatives of the citrus office, the olive office, supervisors and assistant supervisors of organic agriculture schools in the two governorates.
The course topics covered the following points:

  • Introduction to the Fundamentals of Organic Agriculture and Ways to Succeed
  • Pest management in organic agriculture in general
  • Organic olive production: Insects, diseases, soil, conservation agriculture and fertilization
  • Organically protected vegetable production: Organic management of the most important pests: White Fly, Tuta and Diseases
  • Citrus and organic management: Fruit fly and citrus insects
  • Seaweed, amino acids and their compounds

These courses will be pursued to cover all Syrian governorates during 2022.
