Wheat Treatment Experiment in Hama

An experiment was conducted on wheat in Hama by Debbane and Co, under the supervision of Dr. Wael Al-Matni, Eng. Abdul Hamid Kandaqji and Eng. Mahmoud Abdallah, in Kafr Buhum, at the farmer Abu Hisham’s.

Date of the first spraying process: January 24, 2021

Treatments: (Calibration error during implementation, which was useful for us later on)

•Atlantis 50 ml / dunum + scudo 10 ml / dunum

•Atlantis 100 ml / dunum + scudo 10 ml / dunum

Date of the second spraying process: February 2, 2021, on another piece of land.

4 treatments of a second piece of the field:

•Atlantis 100 ml / dunum + scudo 100 ml / dunum

•Atlantis 100 ml / dunum + scudo 100 ml / dunum + agricombe 2,4-D Half L/ha

•Untreated Control plot

•Scudo 100 ml / dunum

•Alga 600 100 g / dunum

The initial evaluation took place on February 2 and it was decided to re-spray using new concentrations.

On February 16, 2021, the results of the trial mixing the Atlantis with Scudo were taken.

We noticed broadleaf weeds in the untreated control plot more than in the treated control plot, which indicates that the treatment had given results in controlling broadleaf weeds.

In all treatments, there are new broadleaf herbaceous growths that appeared after the treatment, indicating that the timing of early spraying did not give sufficient effectiveness, especially in controlling broadleaf weeds.

Some of the broadleaf and thin leaf plants may not have died even a month after they were sprayed

The final reading was made on February 26, by counting the dead, living, and dying, thin leaf and broadleaf weeds within a square measuring (50 x 50) cm, and 10 readings were taken from each treatment.

Trial evaluation: New Living broadleaf weeds

New Living broadleaf weeds are found in abundance in all treatments. Most of them were found in the treatment of Atlantis alone and the control plot, whereas they were found the least following early sprays of Atlantis and Scudo (High efficiency of Atlantis with Scudo on broadleaf weeds) and the triple spray, that is, with the broadleaf herbicide. Only a few new broadleaf weeds were found in this case.

Old living broadleaf weeds

Most of old living broadleaf weeds were found in the treated control plot, with a significant difference from all treatments. This is normal as all new weeds were not exposed to any pesticide and stayed alive. Some of them were found in the treatment of Atlantis and Scudo, with a small dose of early spray, whereas the least number was noted following a triple mix with a spray of Atlantis alone on the next date. The result showed that early spraying of Atlantis with Scudo was not very efficient on broadleaf weeds due to the germination of weeds after spraying. Spraying with broadleaf herbicide was a better option, and the best treatments were Atlantis alone after the second spray.

The use of Scudo has increased the greenness of wheat plants and turned them into blue in a striking way, distinguishing them from all previous treatments.

The use of Alga 600 has contributed to the change of the wheat color into dark green and increased the number of tillers.

The trial will be continued to take the numbers accurately.

Questions and answers

-Does mixing Scudo with Atlantis affect the death rate of weeds? No

-Is early spraying useful? No, the current trial has revealed that early spraying reduces the effectiveness of Atlantis significantly, as most broadleaf weeds grew after spraying, and thus it did not affect them. The ideal tip is to spray after the germination of most of the weeds, that is, after mid-February at least.

-Is a dose of 1 L / Hectare of Atlantis OD sufficient for good control of broadleaf and thin leaf weeds in wheat fields? No, the current trial has proved that this dosage is ineffective for a good control of broadleaf weeds. The recommended dose of Bayer is 1.25 -1.5 L/ ha.

-Why is this dose ineffective? The weeds may have gained resistance over the years.

-Is mixing with broadleaf herbicide 2.4, D possible? Is it useful? Yes, it is necessary to mix with a low rate of Atlantis OD for a good control of broadleaf weeds.
